Letter to Newspapers

Thank you for visiting my blog.

If you are a writer, don’t forget to get the word out to your community. What should be in the letter? I recommend you talk about past accomplishments and future engagements.

This week my marketing person prepared a blast to go out to local newspapers and to my hometown. I’d love for you to tell me what you like about the the blast and what should be added or subtracted.

Award-winning author Melody Dean Dimick creates vivid wordscapes of the Adirondacks, and crusades against illiteracy from her home in Volusia County, Fla.

LAKE HELEN, Fla (April 30, 2019)—Melody Dimick understands the pain young adults face. As a teacher, she witnessed the alienation and vulnerability of one-sided loves, the dreams crushed, the injustices, and the tragedies her students faced. She draws on those experiences in her fiction and poetry.

Her latest work, Backpack Blues: Inspire the Fire Within (2018, Taylor and Seale Publishing), combines original poetry with lessons on form to create an accessible and engaging resource for aspiring poets, and classroom resource for English teachers, with culturally diverse poems exploring the pressures of home, relationships, and school.

Dimick is the winner of two Royal Palm literary awards from the Florida Writers Association, and the current president of the Florida Writers Foundation—a not-for-profit organization fighting to eliminate illiteracy. She is a member of the Florida Writers Association, the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, and the Florida State Poets Association. She recently received an Excellence in the Arts award from the Daytona Writers Guild.

When she is not writing, she speaks about writing and literacy at schools and libraries, plays pinochle with family and friends, and plays pickleball with her husband and partner, Barry.

She will be appearing, on May 11th, as part of the I Heart Books author signing at the main branch of the Alachua County Library System, at 401 E. University Ave., in Gainesville, Fla.

You may follow her news at www.MelodyDeanDimick.com. She would love to visit a school or library near you.

If you’re a writer, I challenge you to write a letter announcing your next event. Thank you for visiting my page.
