Teacher Resources / Visits & Fees

School & Community Visits and Fees

Since I love to interact with students and other readers, I have prepared presentations for:

  • students in grades 8 through 12 and their teachers,
  • book clubs,
  • libraries,
  • civic groups, and
  • writers conference workshops.

Note: For a two-hour presentation, Florida schools are asked to purchase copies of my books for their libraries and to provide a form so students and/or teachers may preorder copies of my books directly from my publisher, Taylor and Seale Publishing. Please order at least one month in advance. I will do a 15-minute post-presentation book-signing event on the day of the presentation. Click here to download the book order form (Coming Soon).

By committing to hosting me, the school agrees to purchase a minimum of 10 copies of Blame and 10 copies of Backpack Blues.

Ideas for Funding Author Visits:

Read-a-thon: Plan a day for students to do nothing but read. Provide time for silent reading, partner reading, reader’s theatre, and reading aloud from favorite books. Send out a pledge form in advance of the day to raise funds.

Wish List: Add a request for sponsorship / partial sponsorship of an author visit to the wish list on your library or school’s website, and ask the PTA/PTO for assistance to fund the visit.

Ask local businesses and/or banks for help to sponsor an author visit. Be sure to send follow-up thank-you letters for them to post in their businesses.

Share the expense with another local school, and split the day and the fee.

Apply for a grant: There are many grants available. Follow this link for a grant honoring one of my favorite YA authors: https://www.scbwi.org/awards/grants/amber-brown-grant/
